Dams information reports

What is a dam?

Dams block off the water in a river or stream, so that it must
pass on to the barrier lake or reservoir for storage.

How are dams built?

Dams are built in streams, rivers or an estuary to retain
water for hydroelectric power and to support the irrigation
system.

What are the purpose of dams?

Dams serve the primary purpose  of supplying water to
areas and retain water to prevent water flow.

Where are the dams

Water care operates fourteen supply reservoirs, five of them
are located in the Waitakere ranges. Two of them are located
in Helensville and four are located in the Huna Rangers.

Facts about dams
The Dams supply is  80% of Auckland's water since
they are built very high.

Earlier dams were made out of earth and rock.
